Merriam, Ks. Remodeling Professional HISCO Design/Build Winner & All Star “2008 Remodel of the Year”

Kansas City NARI, January 29, 2009 – HISCO Design/Build, in Merriam, Kansas, was named Winner in the 2008 Remodel of the Year (Remy) Award competition in the Residential Exterior Specialty over $100,000 category. The awards are part of an annual competition held by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI). This ‘2008 Remodel of the Year’ project has also been featured in the Kansas City Homes & Garden magazine in the October issue. This homeowner contracted HISCO Design/Build to add a swimming pool, cabana, two covered decks, outdoor kitchen and courtyard to the exterior of their home.

Most projects submitted for judging were an improvement or an addition to an existing structure, with the exception of one category, “Residential Exterior Specialty.” Judging for Remy awards took place at the Association’s Chicago NARI chapter, in mid-December. An impartial panel of judges who are experts within the industry and associated fields selected winners based on each entrant’s “before and after” photography and project description. Judging was based on problem solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation, degree of difficulty, and entry presentation.

Thirty four remodeling projects completed by NARI professionals were honored on January 29, 2009. The winning projects, completed in homes throughout the metropolitan area, represent some of the highest quality projects in Kansas City. The NARI REMY Awards is held annually to honor contractors for their craftsmanship, professionalism and their commitment to excellence in remodeling. Entries for the 2008 program were judged on a 100-point system that included project overview, before and after photos, budget considerations, overall aesthetic appeal and communication with the homeowner. Winners had to score at least 85 points. All Star Awards were presented to those entries that achieved 94 or more points. Each entry included a homeowner survey that was worth 15 points. Homeowners judged the remodeling contractor in three areas – completion of contract, communication, and finished product. Remodeling contractors from the Chicago NARI chapter judged the entries this year. Trophies were awarded at the 2008 Remy Award Program at The Lodge At Ironwoods, Leawood, Ks., on January 29, 2009.

The Remy Award competition is widely considered to be the premier event of the year in the KC National Association of the Remodeling Industry. Scheduled for January 29, 2009 at The Lodge at Ironwoods, Leawood, Ks., the event was attended by more than 150 of the local contractor members and their family and staff.

To be considered for a Remy Award, a company must be a NARI member in good standing. NARI members represent an elite group from the approximately 800,000 companies and individuals in the U.S. identifying themselves as remodelers.
